In 1806 William Colgate, an English immigrant to America and devoted Baptist, founded William Colgate & Company, a starch, soap, and candle factory on Dutch Street in New York City.

Shampoo is a hair care product that is used to clean hair. It often takes the shape of a thick liquid. Shampoo is occasionally sold in solid bar form. The proper way to use shampoo is to apply it to damp hair, massage the shampoo into the scalp, and then rinse it out. Some people might use hair conditioner after shampooing.
